Thursday 2nd April 6-8pm
Farpoint Recordings are pleased to invite you the launch of two new projects by Danny McCarthy and The Quiet Club:
Dr. Francis Halsall from NCAD will introduce LISTEN hEAR and Tesla, followed by a performance from The Quiet Club joined by guests Anthony Kelly and David Stalling.
Danny McCarthy LISTEN hEAR is a new book on the work of pioneering Irish sound artist Danny McCarthy published by Farpoint Recordings. The book covers selected works by McCarthy over a twenty year period, ranging from early installations like “Echo’s From An Abandoned Schoolhouse” (1988) up to his current work “Listening With The Sound Turned Off”, which was recently exhibited at The Triskel Arts Centre, Cork.
LISTEN hEAR documents both indoor and outdoor installations and is illustrated in colour and black & white. The book is accompanied by a thirteen track CD and an introduction by David Toop and a text by Julie Forrester.
The Quiet Club are Mick O’Shea and Danny McCarthy. Tesla is their first full-length audio CD released on Farpoint Recordings in a special limited edition with a hand screen-printed cover by Mick O’Shea.
Formed in Feb 2006, the Quiet Club have met with considerable success and have become recognised as one of Ireland’s leading sound art improvisation groups. They have toured extensively in Ireland and have played at festivals in Germany, Canada and Japan. Most recently they appeared at DEAF (Dublin Electronic Arts Festival), Static (Liverpool) and I & E Festival, (Dublin). They frequently play together with guests, which in the past have included Mark Wastell, Viv Corringham, John Godfrey, Harry Moore, Christian Carley, David Toop, and many others.
The Quiet Club continue to push the boundaries of sound making and listening by employing a wide range of sound making devices ranging from stones, home made instruments, electronics, amplified textures, theremins, field recordings, etc.
All are very welcome to come along! Light refreshments will be served.
